“Doom” is a 2005 science fiction action horror film directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak, loosely based on the popular video game series of the same name by id Software. The film transports audiences to a dystopian future where an elite group of Marines is sent on a harrowing mission to Mars, unraveling a deadly mystery that threatens humanity.

The story begins with a distress call from a research facility on Mars, operated by the Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC). The facility is conducting experiments on ancient Martian ruins, hoping to uncover secrets that could revolutionize human life. However, something goes horribly wrong, and the communication is cut off. The Rapid Response Tactical Squad (RRTS), a group of highly trained Marines, is dispatched to investigate and contain whatever threat may have emerged.

Led by the stoic and determined Sergeant Asher “Sarge” Mahonin, played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the team includes a diverse group of soldiers, each with their unique skills and backgrounds. Among them is John “Reaper” Grimm, portrayed by Karl Urban, whose personal stake in the mission is heightened by the presence of his estranged sister, Dr. Samantha Grimm, a scientist working at the facility.

Upon arrival at the Mars base, the squad discovers the facility in disarray, with bloodied corridors and signs of a violent struggle. The team splits up to search for survivors and gather information. As they delve deeper into the complex, they encounter monstrous creatures that were once human, now mutated by a mysterious and deadly infection.

The Marines learn that the UAC’s experiments involved a 24th chromosome, which was intended to enhance human abilities but instead created horrific mutations. As the squad battles their way through the facility, they uncover the truth: the infection is spreading rapidly, turning both the researchers and the local population into nightmarish monsters.

Tensions rise within the team as the true nature of the mission becomes clear. Sarge, increasingly ruthless and obsessed with containing the threat, clashes with Reaper, who prioritizes saving his sister and finding a way to stop the infection without needless bloodshed.

The climax of the film takes place in a desperate battle against time and the ever-growing horde of mutated creatures. Reaper and Dr. Grimm discover that the infection can be stopped by destroying the source: a portal that connects the facility to the ancient Martian ruins. With the help of the surviving Marines, they set explosives to obliterate the portal and the facility.

In a final showdown, Reaper confronts Sarge, who has succumbed to the infection and transformed into a powerful and malevolent creature. The intense fight culminates in Reaper’s victory, but at a great cost. As the facility collapses, Reaper and Dr. Grimm narrowly escape through a teleporter back to Earth, leaving behind the horrors of Mars.
