Under Siege (1992), directed by Andrew Davis and written by J.F. Lawton, is a high-octane action thriller that stars Steven Seagal as Casey Ryback, a former Navy SEAL turned cook aboard the USS Missouri. The film takes place during a hijacking of the battleship by a group of terrorists, led by a rogue CIA operative (Tommy Lee Jones) and a corrupt ex-Navy officer (Gary Busey). Their plan is to steal the ship’s nuclear arsenal and sell it to the highest bidder.

Ryback, initially dismissed as just the ship’s cook, turns out to be the only person capable of stopping the terrorists. Using his elite combat skills, Ryback methodically takes down the hijackers in a series of intense, well-choreographed action sequences, culminating in a final showdown aboard the ship.

The film blends explosive action with suspense, as Ryback must outsmart and overpower the heavily armed terrorists, all while trying to protect the crew. Seagal’s performance as the stoic, unstoppable hero solidified his status as an action star in the early ‘90s. Tommy Lee Jones also shines as the charismatic and psychotic villain, adding a layer of unpredictability to the plot.

Under Siege stands out not just for its non-stop action, but also for its tight pacing, engaging plot, and memorable characters. Often compared to Die Hard on a battleship, it has become a classic in the action genre, combining thrilling set pieces with sharp performances.
