The Relic (1997) is a science fiction horror film directed by Peter Hyams

In the heart of Chicago, a new exhibit at the Natural History Museum becomes the center of a series of horrifying events. Dr. Margo Green, a researcher, is working on a study related to a rare artifact, the Kothoga Relic, which has recently been acquired by the museum. The artifact is linked to an ancient South American tribe and is said to possess a dark curse.

As the museum prepares for its grand opening, a brutal series of murders occurs, each victim found with their bodies horrifically mutilated. The pattern of the killings and the gruesome nature of the crime scenes lead investigators to suspect that the murders are connected to the Kothoga Relic.

Dr. Green, alongside Lt. Vincent D’Agosta, a dedicated detective, is drawn into the investigation. They discover that the relic is not just a cultural artifact but the key to an ancient legend about a monstrous deity that was worshipped by the tribe. The creature, awakened by the presence of the relic, has been unleashed on the city, driven by a primal hunger for blood.

As the museum’s grand opening approaches, the tension escalates. The creature begins a relentless hunt through the museum, preying on unsuspecting visitors and staff. Dr. Green and Lt. D’Agosta must solve the mystery of the relic and find a way to stop the creature before it causes more destruction.

In a thrilling climax, Dr. Green and Lt. D’Agosta face off against the monstrous entity within the museum’s labyrinthine corridors. They must outwit and outmaneuver the beast to prevent further carnage and protect the city from the ancient horror that has been unleashed.

The Relic merges science fiction and horror, offering a suspenseful tale of ancient curses and modern terror as the characters race against time to prevent disaster.
