Universal’s “Dracula Untold” made a bold attempt to reimagine the iconic vampire character for a new generation when it was released in 2014. The film, directed by Gary Shore, offered a fresh origin story for one of the most famous figures in horror literature and cinema, blending historical drama with supernatural horror to create a new take on Dracula’s legend.

Set in the 15th century, the story follows Vlad III (Luke Evans), the prince of Wallachia, who is known for his valor and fierce leadership. Vlad is a loving husband to Mirena (Sarah Gadon) and a devoted father to his young son, Ingeras (Art Parkinson). However, his peaceful life is shattered when Sultan Mehmed II (Dominic Cooper) demands a thousand boys from Wallachia to join his army, including Vlad’s son. Desperate to protect his family and his people, Vlad seeks out a dark power.

Vlad’s quest for a solution leads him to a mysterious cave where he encounters a powerful and ancient vampire (Charles Dance). This creature offers Vlad a deal: immense power to defeat his enemies, but at a terrible cost. Vlad accepts, drinking the vampire’s blood and gaining superhuman strength, speed, and the ability to transform into a swarm of bats. However, he must resist the overwhelming thirst for human blood for three days, or he will become a vampire permanently.

As Vlad battles Mehmed’s forces, he struggles with his new abilities and the monstrous urges that come with them. He uses his newfound powers to decimate the Sultan’s army, but each victory brings him closer to succumbing to his vampiric nature. His transformation alienates him from his people, who begin to fear and distrust him.

Mirena’s love and faith in Vlad are tested as she witnesses his gradual loss of humanity. In a climactic battle, Mehmed captures Ingeras and threatens to kill him. Vlad, now fully embracing his dark powers, defeats Mehmed in a brutal showdown, but Mirena is fatally wounded in the process. In her dying moments, she urges Vlad to save their son and remember the man he once was.

Overcome with grief and rage, Vlad fully transforms into a vampire, sacrificing his humanity to save his son and defeat his enemies. As dawn breaks, Vlad watches over his kingdom one last time before retreating into the shadows, ensuring his son is safe and the future of Wallachia is secure
