Set in the late 19th century, The Last Voyage of the Demeter focuses on the crew of a merchant ship hired to deliver several mysterious crates from Eastern Europe to England. Among the crew are Captain Eliot (Liam Cunningham), a seasoned sailor who has spent his life at sea; Clemens (Corey Hawkins), a doctor seeking redemption from a dark past; and Anna (Aisling Franciosi), a stowaway with a mysterious connection to the cargo. As the days pass and the voyage continues, strange occurrences begin to plague the ship. Crew members disappear, livestock is found drained of blood, and an eerie sense of dread pervades the vessel.
It is soon revealed that Count Dracula (Javier Botet) is aboard the Demeter, using the ship as his personal hunting ground. As the nights grow longer and the killings more brutal, the crew realizes they are trapped with an unstoppable predator. Their struggle for survival intensifies as they attempt to uncover the vampire’s weaknesses, but the isolation of the ship and the remoteness of the sea make escape impossible.
The Last Voyage of the Demeter blends the classic gothic horror of Dracula with the claustrophobic terror of a ship lost at sea. The film builds tension through its eerie atmosphere, with mist-covered waters, creaking wood, and ominous darkness surrounding the ship.
